How to Clean Up Repeated Spaces and Extra Blank Lines

Text copied from a PDF, a Word document, a web page or an email often brings invisible clutter with it: multiple spaces between words, tab indents, and runs of blank lines that leave uneven gaps between paragraphs. Paste that into a post, a form or a design template and it looks messy. This tool fixes those problems in one step and gives you tidy text ready to copy.

Because the input box is plain text, pasting into it already drops visual formatting such as bold, colours and links; the tool then tidies the spacing and line breaks. Everything happens in your browser and the text is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Paste your text into the Text box.
  2. Click Clean text.
  3. The cleaned text appears in the result area below the button.
  4. Select and copy it, or edit the original and click the button again.

Exactly what it does

  • Turns any run of spaces or tabs into a single space, removing wide gaps between words and long indents.
  • Reduces three or more consecutive line breaks to two, leaving at most one blank line between paragraphs.
  • Removes spaces and blank lines at the very start and end of the text.
  • Keeps single line breaks and a single blank line between paragraphs, so paragraphs are not merged into one block.
  • Works the same on Arabic, English and mixed text.

Practical examples

  • Fixing a paragraph copied from a PDF with double spaces between words before putting it in a report.
  • Tidying an article before pasting it into a CMS so paragraph spacing is even.
  • Preparing a product description copied from a supplier's file before adding it to your store.
  • Removing tabs from text copied out of a table before using it in a message or post.

Tips and notes

  • It does not delete every blank line; one is kept between paragraphs. To join lines into a single paragraph, use the line break remover.
  • A line that contains only spaces is not treated as fully empty, so an extra gap can occasionally remain; delete it by hand or clean again after removing it.
  • Avoid using it on code that relies on indentation, such as Python or YAML, because collapsing tabs and spaces changes its structure.
  • It does not fix spelling or remove duplicate lines; it is focused on spacing and blank lines only.

For more control, try the line break remover to merge lines, duplicate lines remover to drop repeats, and the HTML tags stripper if your text contains web page markup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it remove all blank lines between paragraphs?

No. It keeps at most one blank line between paragraphs and removes any extra ones, so the text stays readable and divided into paragraphs.

What happens to tab characters?

Every tab, or any run of tabs and spaces together, becomes a single ordinary space.

Does it remove bold, links and other formatting?

The box only accepts plain text, so visual formatting disappears as soon as you paste, and the result is plain unformatted text.

Can I use it to clean up code?

It is not recommended for languages that depend on indentation, because the tool collapses multiple spaces into one and changes the code's structure.
