How to add a text watermark to protect your photos
When you publish your own photos, designs or product shots online, they can end up reposted elsewhere without credit. A text watermark is a simple safeguard: it places your name, shop name or handle across the image in a semi-transparent way, so the picture stays visible while its source is written right on it.
This tool adds bold white text in the middle of your image at a slight angle, with control over opacity and font size. Everything happens inside your browser without uploading the image, and the watermarked copy downloads straight away.
How to use it
- Drag your image onto the upload box or click it to choose a file.
- Type your text in Watermark text. The default is "Adawaty", which is also used if you leave the field empty.
- Move the Opacity slider between 0.1 (barely visible) and 1 (fully solid). It starts at 0.4.
- Set the Font size in pixels, from 10 to 200. The default is 40.
- Click Add & download and the image downloads as watermarked.jpg.
What you control
- Text: your name, brand, handle or website address, in English or Arabic.
- Opacity: balance visibility against covering the details of the photo.
- Font size: measured in real pixels on the original image.
- Fixed placement and style: the text appears once at the centre, in bold white, tilted about 25 degrees.
Practical uses
- Adding your shop name to product photos before posting them on social media.
- Stamping "SAMPLE" or "DRAFT" on a design you send to a client before final approval.
- Signing travel and landscape photos you publish as a photographer.
- Marking a copy of a personal document with a phrase such as "For registration only" before sending it.
Tips for an effective watermark
- Match the font size to the image: size is in pixels, so 40 looks fine on an 800-pixel-wide image but tiny on a 4000-pixel camera photo, where 150 or more works better.
- Watch out for light backgrounds: the text is always white, so it can disappear on white backgrounds or bright skies. Raise opacity to around 0.7 or higher in those cases.
- Centre placement is harder to remove: a mark in the middle is harder to crop out than one in a corner.
- Output format: the result is a high-quality JPG, so PNG transparency is not preserved.
- Keep the original: the watermark is merged into the pixels and cannot be removed from the output later.
If you have a logo instead of text, use Add image/logo watermark; to write a caption in a colour and position you choose, try Add text to image; and for documents use Watermark PDF.
