How many days until Ramadan? Using the Ramadan countdown
As Ramadan approaches, many people start preparing early: booking leave, adjusting work schedules, shopping for the household, shifting sleep routines and making up missed fasts. This counter answers one question clearly: how many days are left until the next Ramadan begins? If you open it during Ramadan, it shows a greeting with the current Hijri year instead.
No input is needed. The tool reads today's date from your device, converts it to the corresponding Hijri date and counts the days to 1 Ramadan. Everything happens inside your browser and no data is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Open the tool page; the result appears straight away with no button to press.
- Read the message, for example "N days remaining until Ramadan" followed by the upcoming Hijri year.
- If today falls in Ramadan according to the calculation, you will see "Ramadan Mubarak! You are now in Ramadan" with the year.
- To update the number on a later day, reload the page; the count is calculated once when the page opens.
How the count works
- Today's Gregorian date is converted to Hijri using the arithmetic 30-year-cycle calendar.
- If Ramadan has not yet arrived this Hijri year, the target is this year's Ramadan; if you are in it or past it, the target is next year's.
- The difference is shown in whole days, without hours or minutes.
- It relies on your device's date, so make sure your clock and calendar are set correctly.
Practical uses
- Working out how many days you have left to make up missed fasts before the new Ramadan.
- Planning annual leave to cover the first days of the month or the last ten nights.
- Spreading your Ramadan shopping budget over the remaining weeks.
- Reminding a team when reduced working hours are likely to start.
- Giving children a daily countdown to build excitement at home.
Tips and notes
- The count is an estimate. Each country announces the start of Ramadan based on moon sighting or its adopted calendar, and the actual date can differ from the calculation by a day or occasionally more.
- Do not use the counter to decide the day you start fasting; wait for the official announcement where you live.
- It does not count down to the end of Ramadan or to Eid; it focuses on the start of the next Ramadan.
- If you travel to a country that starts on a different day, follow the announcement of the country you are in.
