How to convert WebP to JPG so it opens anywhere
Many websites now serve images as WebP because the files are small and pages load faster. But when you save one of those images and try to open it in older editing software, upload it to a portal that only accepts JPG, or print it from a device that does not recognise the format, you may hit an error. This tool solves that by converting the image to the most widely supported format.
It relies on your browser's ability to open WebP: the image is drawn at its original size over a white background and saved as a high-quality JPG. The file is not uploaded anywhere; everything happens on your device.
How to use it
- Drag a WebP file onto the upload box or click it to choose the file.
- Check that the file name and size appear below the box.
- Click Convert & download.
- A success message appears and converted.jpg downloads, ready to open in any image program.
What happens during conversion
- Dimensions stay the same: nothing is resized or cropped.
- Transparency becomes white: some WebP images have transparent backgrounds, and those areas turn white in the JPG.
- Fixed high quality: a high-quality compression level balances clarity and file size.
- Still images only: an animated WebP becomes a single still JPG.
Real-world examples
- You saved a product photo from an online shop and need to send it to a supplier through an app that does not display WebP.
- You want to insert an image from a news site into a Word document or presentation on an older computer.
- An online form only accepts JPG uploads.
- A print service will not handle WebP files.
Tips and notes
- Respect image rights: converting the format of an image saved from the web does not give you the right to reuse it commercially, so check the licence first.
- The file may grow: WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so a slightly larger JPG is normal.
- Use an up-to-date browser: opening WebP depends on the browser, and modern browsers generally support it.
- Other formats: the upload box takes any image your browser supports, so PNG or GIF files can be turned into JPG too.
- Every file downloads with the same name, so rename them if you convert several.
To go the other way and make lighter web images, use Convert to WebP; for iPhone photos in HEIC format try HEIC to JPG; and to shrink the result further use Compress image.
