How to add text to an image online
A short line of text can turn a photo into a ready-made post: a headline for a shop promotion, a greeting for an occasion, a meme caption, or the name of a place on a travel shot. This tool lets you type one line, choose its size, colour and vertical position, and download the image with the text applied.
The text is drawn in bold, centred across the width of the image, with a semi-transparent dark outline around the letters so it stays readable on light and dark backgrounds. Everything happens in your browser; the image is never uploaded.
How to use it
- Drag an image onto the upload box or click it to choose one.
- Type your words in the Text field.
- Set the Font size between 10 and 300 pixels. The default is 48.
- Pick a Color with the colour picker. It starts as white.
- Choose Top, Middle or Bottom from Vertical position. Bottom is selected by default.
- Click Add & download; the image downloads as text-added.jpg.
Controls
- Colour: any colour from the picker, to match your brand or the photo.
- Size: from small captions to large headlines.
- Vertical position: near the top, in the middle, or close to the bottom edge.
- Letter outline: a dark outline scaled to the font size is added automatically for legibility.
- Horizontal centring: the text is always centred across the width.
Examples
- Writing "30% OFF" at the top of a product photo for an Instagram story.
- Making a meme with a big white caption along the bottom.
- Adding "Happy Birthday" or "Eid Mubarak" to a photo for friends and family.
- Labelling a travel photo with the city name or date for your album.
Tips and notes
- One line only: text is not wrapped, so long phrases can run past the edges. Shorten the text or reduce the font size.
- Need two lines? Add the first line and download, then upload the result and add the second line in another position.
- Size is in pixels: large camera photos need a much bigger font than the default.
- Contrast: light text on dark areas, or the reverse, reads best; the outline helps but does not replace a sensible colour choice.
- Format: the output is JPG, so any transparency in the original is lost.
To protect a photo with angled semi-transparent text use Text watermark, to fit a platform's required size try Resize image, and to combine several pictures into one use Merge images.
