About Sign PDF
This tool puts your handwritten-style signature on a PDF and gives you back a signed copy. You can draw the signature with a mouse, a finger or a stylus, type your name and pick one of five handwriting fonts, or upload a photo or scan of a signature you made on paper. Then you tap the spot on the page where it belongs, adjust its size, and download the file.
It suits the everyday paperwork that ends with “please sign and send back”: a rental agreement, a school permission slip, an offer letter, a delivery note or a timesheet. The PDF is opened and written entirely inside your browser, so the document never travels to a server. The original text of the file is not touched: your signature is added as a small image on top of the page, and the words stay selectable and searchable.
Why use it
- Three ways to create a signature: draw it, type it, or upload a photo of the one you already use on paper.
- Uploaded photos get their paper background removed automatically, with a slider to fine-tune the result.
- Place as many signatures and dates as you need, on any page, and copy one to every page in a single step.
- The original PDF text is kept as it was, so it stays selectable, searchable and sharp.
- Pages with an unusual size or rotation are handled, so the signature lands exactly where you put it in the preview.
How to use
Open your PDF
Drag the file onto the box or tap it to choose a PDF. Every page appears as a preview below the signature panel.
Create your signature
In the Draw tab, sign inside the white box and use Undo or Clear to fix mistakes. In the Type tab, write your name and choose a font. In the Upload tab, pick a PNG or JPG of your signature and move the slider until only the ink is left.
Place it on the page
Tap or click the page where the signature should go. Drag it to move it and drag the blue corner to make it larger or smaller; the proportions stay the same. Use × to remove it.
Add a date if needed
Switch “What a tap adds” to Date, choose the day and one of four formats, then tap the page next to your signature.
Download the signed copy
Press “Sign and download PDF”. The new file is saved with “-signed” added to its name, and the original on your device is left unchanged.
Examples
A two-page rental agreement
Upload the lease, draw your signature once, tap the signature line on page 2, then add the date beside it. The download keeps all the clauses as real text, so the landlord can still search the document.
Initials on every page
For a 12-page contract that asks for initials on each page, type your initials, place them in the bottom corner of page 1, select them and press “Copy selected to all pages”. All 12 pages get the same mark at the same spot.
Reusing a signature you signed on paper
Sign a blank sheet, take a photo with your phone and upload it. The tool turns the paper colour transparent so only the blue or black ink is placed on the PDF, without a white rectangle around it.
An Arabic name
Type “محمد العتيبي” and choose Aref Ruqaa or Reem Kufi, the two Arabic fonts in the list, to get a calligraphic Arabic signature instead of a plain system font.
| Method | Best for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Draw | Signing on a phone or tablet with a finger or stylus | Undo removes the last stroke; ink colour and line width can be changed |
| Type | A clean, consistent signature or initials | Five fonts: two Arabic (Aref Ruqaa, Reem Kufi) and three Latin script fonts |
| Upload | Matching the signature you use on paper | Works with PNG, JPG and WebP; a slider controls how much background is removed |
| Date | Forms that ask for the signing date | Formats 2026-10-30, 30/10/2026, 10/30/2026 or the month written out |
Tips
- For a sharp result, draw the signature large across the box; it is trimmed and scaled down when you place it.
- When uploading a photo, sign with a dark pen on white paper and shoot in daylight without shadows.
- If grey patches of paper remain after upload, move the slider to the right; if parts of the ink disappear, move it to the left.
- Check the last page before downloading: signature lines are often at the very bottom.
The PDF is opened, previewed and signed inside your browser. It is never uploaded. Only the free PDF libraries and, when you open the Type tab, the signature fonts are downloaded from public CDNs.
Frequently asked questions
Is signing a PDF here really free?
Yes. There is no account, no limit on the number of files and no watermark added to the result.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and written in your browser on your own device. Closing the tab removes it from memory.
Will the text of my PDF still be selectable after signing?
Yes. The tool adds your signature as an image on top of the page and does not redraw the page, so the original text, fonts and layout remain exactly as they were.
Is this a legally valid electronic signature?
It adds a visual signature, the same as signing a printout and scanning it. Many everyday agreements accept this, but some contracts or authorities require a certificate-based digital signature. Check with the party asking for the signature if you are unsure.
Is this the same as a digital signature with a certificate?
No. The tool does not attach a cryptographic certificate. If your PDF already carries a certificate-based signature, adding anything to the file, including this signature, will make that existing signature show as changed.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Draw with your finger in the signature box, then tap the page to place it. The resize corner and the × button get larger on touch screens.
How does the background removal for uploaded signatures work?
Every pixel lighter than the slider value becomes transparent and darker pixels are kept, with a soft edge so the ink does not look jagged. The slider runs from 80 to 250 and starts at 195.
Can I put the signature on every page?
Yes. Place it once, tap it to select it, and press “Copy selected to all pages”. It is added at the same position and physical size on each page.
Does it work with Arabic PDFs and Arabic names?
Yes. Arabic documents preview and keep their text after signing, and the Type tab includes two Arabic fonts for names written in Arabic.
Why can’t I open a password-protected PDF?
Encrypted PDFs cannot be changed without first removing the protection. Remove the password in the program that created the file, then sign the unprotected copy.
What happens to rotated or landscape pages?
The preview shows the page the way a PDF reader displays it, and the signature is written so that it appears upright at the same spot in the downloaded file.
