How to extract selected pages from a PDF

Sometimes you only need a few pages from a large PDF: one chapter of a book, the signature page of a long contract, or a single month from an annual report. Sending the whole file is heavy for the recipient and exposes information they do not need. This tool creates a new PDF containing only the pages you choose, while the original stays untouched.

Everything happens in your browser. Selected pages are copied as they are into a new file without re-rendering, so selectable text, links and images keep their original quality, and your file is not uploaded anywhere. Because it accepts both single numbers and ranges and respects the order you type, it is also handy for reordering pages.

How to use it

  1. Drag a PDF onto Drag PDF file here, or click to choose it.
  2. In Page numbers (e.g: 1,3,5-7), type the pages you want.
  3. Click Extract & download.
  4. extracted-pages.pdf downloads, with a message showing how many pages were extracted.

Ways to specify pages

  • Single numbers separated by commas: 2,8,15.
  • Ranges with a hyphen: 10-20 means pages 10 to 20 inclusive.
  • A mix of both: 1,4-6,12.
  • Pages appear in the order you type them, so 5,1,2 puts page five first.
  • Repeating a number repeats that page in the output.
  • Numbers outside the file's page count are ignored.

Practical use cases

  • Sending only the signature page of a twenty-page contract for signing.
  • Building a short version of a long manual with only the pages your team needs.
  • Pulling one chapter from a book or study notes to share with classmates.
  • Separating one month's invoice from a file containing the whole year.
  • Moving an executive summary to the front of a report by listing its page first.

Tips and notes

  • Numbering follows page position in the file starting at 1, not numbers printed on the pages.
  • Write ranges from low to high; a reversed range like 9-5 yields no pages.
  • If you are asked for valid page numbers, check they are within the page count and separated by commas.
  • Password-protected PDFs may not open; remove protection first if you are allowed to.

If it is easier to list what to remove, use Delete PDF pages. To break a file into several files, try Split PDF, and to combine extracted pages with other documents, use Merge PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reorder pages with this tool?

Yes. Pages are placed in the new file in the order you type, so 3,1,2 makes page three the first page.

Does text stay selectable in the extracted file?

Yes. Pages are copied as they are rather than turned into images, so text and links behave exactly as in the original.

What if I type a reversed range like 9-5?

No pages are taken from that range. Always write ranges from the smaller number to the larger one.

Can a page appear twice in the output?

Yes. Typing the same number twice includes that page twice in the new file.
